Asthma affects an estimated 14% of Americans under age 18. Among children, age 5-14,asthma affects 8.8% of white youth, 12.8% of black youth and 21.5% of Hispanic youth whose ethnicity is Puerto Rican.

Boston Children's Hospital Reports Progress on Asthma in Boston
The hospital’s program, the Community Asthma Initiative, targeted 283 children with asthma in some of Boston’s poorest neighborhoods.
